Avoidance
The conflict is not addressed by anyone
involved in the conflict for various reasons including lack of will,
involvement by individuals that are averse to conflict, the issue is
not worth a conflict to either party, and there is no belief by the
parties that resolution can be attained.
Competition – This style of conflict
management is represented by one party being in a position of power
and winning the conflict while the other loses. This is the method
that will be used by an IT manager in addressing a serious conflict
related to employment termination or other situations. The manager
should prepare himself or herself prior to addressing the conflict
by thinking through how to approach and follow-through on
resolution. The improper behavior by the computer professional must
stop immediately and firmly; with the manager being in the position
of authority. The employee has already crossed the line for which
they are being fired and has also possibly entered into conflict
after termination. The employer is therefore justified in
terminating the individual, as well as to quickly eliminate any
serious associated conflict.
